Review Summary
The assortment of motors in this pack is widely appreciated for its value and variety, catering well to beginners and young enthusiasts with a range of A, B, and C engines suitable for different rocket sizes and launch experiences. Many users highlight the inclusion of additional items like wadding, igniters, and plugs as a convenient bonus for multiple launches, though some note the pack leans toward short-delay, lower-impulse engines, which may not suit all rocket designs. Reliability is generally praised, with a few cautions about potential misfires if the engines are stored too long.
Great value assortment for those starting out
A very useful assortment for those that have several 18mm rockets. The A and B motors are ideal for 1-2 ounce rockets such as the Alpha and many others in the My kid's first rocket class. It makes sense that they do not include C6-7s in this kit, because any rocket light enough to fly well on that motor would most likely get lost with a kid flying it. The C6-3s and C6-5s are great for slightly larger/heavier/draggier rockets such as some of the fatter designs or 3-4 ounces (My kid's second rocket). One of the many advantages of flying with a club is that I can always swap with someone else if I wind up with too many of one motor or not enough of another. Plus it also includes wadding, so it's one stop shopping for everything needed for one or several enjoyable flying days.
A good value, but be aware of specific engines included
This pack is definitely a good value. However, if you look carefully at the engines included, they are mostly short delay, low impulse engines. No C6-7, for example, which is an engine we use a lot. We have found that we have used all the larger impulse and longer delay engines from this pack, and are left with engines that we don't have as much use for in our selection of rockets. But if you are just starting out, we would recommend getting a heavier, low flying rocket, for the low delay engines, so you can get a sense of the size of your launch area. And get a smaller rocket that can use both the lower and higher impulse engines, and the longer delay engines, such as the standard Alpha III. If you use/need the engines included in this pack, it is a great value.
Can't Beat This Value
A great value in any setting! This assortment covers the range of different rocket motors needed by most young, budding rocket scientists e.g. the kids!!! Yes, it will excite most adults watching too. This 24 pack of assorted motors also comes with 30 igniters (6 extra...always good to have) and 75 sheets of wadding. Oh yes, 24 plugs are also included. What's all this mean? Simply, you're in for a lot of fun at the cost of around $2.00 a moonshot. You can't beat that value anywhere! Great for the newbies, school science classes, or just a fun day in the park! Obviously, we use these with some smaller rockets. Regardless, the kids and most adults love them. One thing for you to consider...using the A8-3 motors with the beginner rockets allows for good liftoff speed and overall altitude, but the rocket is still low enough for the kids to view the ejection charge puff of smoke for the streamer/parachute deployment. It will certainly add to their excitement. Regarding the larger motors...most will send your beginner rockets out of sight briefly with every spectator scanning the sky looking for the streamer/parachute eagerly wanting to be the first to point and shout out...There it is!!! Wait, that sounds like lots of fun too. Good flying...
