Piper Super Cub w/Floats Bush Plane

This is a 4/5 star model. The kit has less than 100 pieces, but there is enough here to spend a few enjoyable hours putting it together. I encountered a small amount of flash and some slight warping on the pontoon pieces. But all in all, the quality of the cast was average or slightly above. Turbulence-- The directions are good at showing which pieces should receive a certain color of paint, including the dash instruments. Unfortunately, line drawings aren't large and at times are vague on placement and detail. For instance, the instructions show the engine housing having a smooth connected fit all the way around. But, in fact, the plastic housing is molded to accurately portray venting (gaps) on the sides. After cramming it all together, adding too much glue and tape, I finally saw this on web pictures, and that solved the problem. Tail Wind-- this model provides opportunities to go beyond glue. It asks for weights to be added to the floats, and wants you to melt lengths of sprue into stabilizer struts. These are nice additions. Another rare plus is that the decal sheet provides extra copies of key labels. This is so smart. Decals tend to rip and fold upon themselves. Having extras is a great practice that I would like to see in other models. What would be the cost? A few dimes? A smooth landing-- Highs and lows aside, what I liked most about this product is the ability to reflect upon my father, who also liked pontoon planes, and to get into that modeller head space of calm. This was a breezy, delightful build. The stated difficulty rating of this model is a 2, and that's about right. A novice to moderately skilled modeller who likes the idea of floatplanes should have a good time working through this kit. I recommend it.
