"Alpha rocket for junior high summer camp"

This classic design with parachute recovery is always the most popular at my camps. As usual, patience is needed when gluing the fins.

These rockets were very fantastic and I had no problems with them at all. They are very easy to assemble and the manuals are all very helpful.

"Hits the sweet spot for educational use"

The Estes Alpha has been the most popular introductory Estes rocket kit for almost 5 full decades. The reason is that it represents the best overall combination of build simplicity and challenge, as well as a providing a satisfying launch experience. Easier builds (Ready to Fly, Almost Ready to Fly, and E2X) do not provide the learning opportunities that constructing a model rocket from scratch does. Smaller builds (e.g. Wizard) provide a less interesting launch experience due to their small size. Larger builds (e.g. Big Bertha) provide an even better launch experience than the Alpha, but come at a much higher price. I built my first model rocket, an Estes Alpha, in 1973. Today I use the Estes Alpha to teach 43 junior high school students qualitative and quantitative scientific concepts as part of a STEM program at two schools. I have tried other rockets, but unless the class is experience or of a higher age group, I find the Alpha to be the perfect fit for the entry-level rocketeer between 11 and 13 years of age.

In our camp for children with cancer, we do alot of extra craft style workshops. Our kids have a blast constructing, decorating and launching these guys.

When a model rocket has been sold to millions of model rocketeers for over three decades, there has to be a reason. With its high quality components, easy assembly and reliable performance, the Estes Alpha has become the all time leading entry level model rocket! With a rocket this well known you are bound to get compliments from fellow rocketeers on choosing such a thoroughbred.

The Alpha is a classic Skill Level 1 rocket kit that includes a one piece body tube, laser cut balsa fins and an aerodynamic nose cone that completes the sleek look. Building this speed merchant takes about an afternoon and flying is just as easy and enjoyable as building this classic. When powered with a C-class rocket engine, the rocket can reach cloud topping altitudes of 1,000 feet (305 m). Recovery of this aerodynamic wonder is accomplished with a colorful 12 inch (30 cm) preassembled parachute. Its suggested color scheme and classy red, white and blue decals are as American as you can get. You'll feel patriotic building this sleek and colorful rocket as well as flying it.
