"M3 Grant--- the shorter Lee"
vtbmwbiker
As many have said below, it's an older kit but well worth the look. Plenty of detail in the lower hull though definitely take the time to get the 75mm seated right and watch the gluing as it's easy, especially with thin cement, to accidentally glue the gun in place. There's also an annoying gap right in front of the main gun housing between the upper superstructure and lower hull that needs some careful fitting. The big change from the Lee to the Grant is the turret. It was built to British design with room for a wireless set in the back and no extra machine gun turret (which looked ridiculous on the original version anyways). Standard split hatch in it's place. I tried a different approach to painting this model. I figured that the tanks were factory finished in olive drab in the states and then shipped to Cairo. So, I painted it first with a base of OD and then layered first sand, and then red-brown on top of that. Overall, I like the finished effect. Some points to consider: the 37mm does need a drill out for the barrel and that gun assembly has a tendency to stick in it's mount. A bit of WD-40 and some strategic sanding does wonders here. The tracks have the usual issues with sizing. One extra track block in them would solve all of the issues. Too bad they can't model track tensioning systems or a way to move the drive sprocket forward or back a few millimeters to make it easier. Took about two days from start to finish.

"A Great British Tank Model"
johncpo41 (www.hobbiesinabarn)
I built this model right out of the box with no additional parts. This kit is a re-release of an older version and fun to have memories of the older release. There are no difficulties in the construction and no flash on the parts and very easy to follow instructions, the chassis is the same as the Sherman tank series so anyone familiar with the suspension on Sherman kits will not have any problems. Each wheel assembly is the repeat of the others just as with the Sherman tank. I painted the model to follow the British practice of breaking up any visible lines in the pattern of their tanks in the North African battles. Yes it is an older Tamiya kit but well worth the experience. As with all Tamiya military kits there is an extensive history of the vehicle in the instruction booklet.

this like the lee kit is a nice easy build and great for new builders

This is a neat kit that captures the complexities of the prototype war machine well. My favorite part was the ability to move the hull mounted gun both up and down and side to side. Tracks aren't superb, but do the job.
