"Should Have Model"
Zeke (Thailand)
This is an excellent model to assemble. The majority of parts fit. I did experience a fit problem with the flight deck. This is a big ship which means there are very few small parts to work with. The after landing wheels on the planes, parts are ridiculous small. The instruction was pretty much easy to following and understand. I did have a couple problem with the instructions. This is a must have model if you are into the history of WWII.

"A Wonderful 1/350th Scale Kit!"

This was a great kit! I thoroughly enjoyed it and found Trumpeter's instruction sheet very clear and accurate. I painted it as it appeared, and I also purchased an additional set of B-25 Mitchell 1/350th scale planes from Trumpeter to add to the two that come with the kit. Granted, it wasn't the full contingent that made Doolittle's Tokyo bombing run in 1942, but with 12 on the deck ready to go, it looks great. Makes a great conversation piece and I love the camouflage paint job that I gave it. That said, I might also add that the instructions also have the formula to mix the paint to get the right color for the flight deck, which I did. It's a hard color to find at your local hobby shop, and to be able to make the color yourself and add it to your airbrush is deeply satisfying. If memory serves the flight deck uses 1/3 and a 2/3 mixture, spelled out in the instructions. Lastly, this kit was a gift to myself after a military deployment. I said to myself that I would purchase this kit when I finally got home, and I am glad that I did. My sadness only came about when I finally finished it. Sigh...It was so fun to build that I was bummed when it was all over. Enjoy it. Made me a big, big fan of the 1/350th or higher scale ship models.

"Great kit. Fun to build"

This was a great model kit to build. It was fun, and was my first Yorktown class. This is my seventh ship to build and it was well worth it. There was one minor problem involving the fitment of so parts. The hanger deck walls required a large amount of sanding to allow perfect fitment of the flight deck. again, this was a very minor problem. Other than that, the Midnight Blue color is difficult to find, usually this site was out of stock as well as companies flat out did not produce the color. I did however find one company that produces it, forgot it and will post it shortly. Finally, great model kit.

"Great, but needs more planes"

To make the Hornet for the Doolittle raid, you'll need to buy a bunch of the extra B-25s, but then it is awesome. Pretty huge.
