"My first bomber"

I did not buy this off of Hobbylinc, but in a local shop. The only complaint that I have about Revell's kit is the same as my complaint about Revell's P-38. Because you can make the Mosquito into a : 1. Fighter; 2. Bomber; or 3. Fighter-Bomber-Interceptor, the directions are INCREDIBLY confusing! It doesn't give you steps 1 through 10 to make the bomber, then 1-10 for the interceptor, etc. It mixes the directions so that step 2 involves part A for the fighter, B for the Bomber and C for the interceptor. And this repeats throughout much of the steps. AGAIN, I think I just got lucky, 'cause I got it right in making the bomber. But, this kit is NOT for beginners! Work yourself up to it. Finally, I made the bomber with the clear bubble below the cockpit, YET, there is no Bombadier figure to put there so that you can see him through the clear plastic! The kit comes with two pilots for the cockpit ( And they are a close fit, let me tell you), but NO figure for the bombadier! Nonetheless, its still a great kit, especially for the price. Make it a bomber so that u have an RAF bomber in your fleet, cause i have yet to find a 1/48 Lancaster bomber under $100.00 on any website. And i'm NOT paying any ware near that money for ANY model. Enjoy this one, but its a challenge!

"have your exacto blades in filler putty on hand."
jctoymaker
I am somewhat bewildered by the positive reviews for his kit. I find it the worst Revell model I can remember building. I don't ever remember having to cut out the landing gear doors for ANY kit in my life; it was bad enough to have to saw the nose off to build the night fighter version (or cut the bomb bay doors open for the bomber), than have to cut the gear doors open (I used a heated #1 Exacto blade, making the cut smoother and more even). I needed a lot of filler putty for the radar nose. The fit wasn't that good, about average for the age of the kit, with some flash on the smallest parts. On thing I wonder about; what would a liability lawyer do, if his ten year old son cut himself badly while trying to cut open the bay doors? This is no way a build for a ten year old, period. I would never let a kid mess with this mess. I wrote Revell an e-mail on his point. THis kit was neaith fun or satisfying to build.

The kit went together well with no problems with fit and the detailing was very well thought of. I completed my kit in about 8 hours total due to the painting of the camouflage scheme.

This kit is from the great Monogram stable of the early '70s. The detail was state of the art for the time, and still stands up well with parts to make both fighter and bomber versions at a fraction of the price of newer kits. The fit is great, the outline accurate, and assembly was straightforward. A most enjoyable build of an important airplane that will reward the modeler with a fine, good value model.
