"The mammoth..."

This car was meant to take a much bigger engine... but budget made it have a smaller one... The model is tamiya superb standart. The only thing to take care of is the top/front glass, as it is hard to glue and keep the inside paint in its place... Despite that, very nice! Oh, the silver letters are not easy to apply...

"Fantasticly fun build"
MrBuick
I had a great time with this model. The molding, fit and finish quality were all excellent. Little cleanup was required for everything to just fall into place. Instructions are clear and easy to follow, and when completed, this makes for a beautiful representation of a car with a very interesting history. Originally, the XJ220 was going to be spec'd with a V12 and AWD, but due to technology restrictions of the time, and Jaguar's inexperience with an AWD system, it didn't end up having that. In 1992, the technology to manufacture tires that would hold up to the weight of the AWD system with a V12 while being able to sustain speeds upwards of 200mph didn't exist. Tires kept failing during early testing, so Jaguar ditched the V12 and AWD system and instead used a twin-turbo V6 and RWD platform. However, that didn't end up being a bad thing, because the car ended up being faster than originally anticipated, and held the record for fastest car in the world before the F1 Mclaren, as well as the Nuremberg track record for almost 10 years. Still, they had received deposits from more than 1000 buyers who were told that they'd be receiving a V12 platform, and when the car was released with a V6, Jaguar lost tons of sales and it never stood a chance at being a long-production run car, no matter how fast it was. Anyway, this is a wonderful kit that will suit any true automotive enthusiast.
